Red Hat One is where Red Hat and its key partners come together, setting the stage for innovation, collaboration, and industry insights. Once again, this year’s event in Las Vegas exceeded expectations, giving us a front-row seat to all the latest advancements in our favorite software. In addition, we discussed the developments with Red Hat specialists and partners from all over the world. The icing on the cake was that Angelo took center stage to share the exciting story of DEME project. On and off stage at Red Hat One in Las Vegas!
Thanks to our close relationship with Red Hat, we regularly get a sneak peek of what they have in the pipeline. But it was still impressive to experience Red Hat One,” says Angelo Jacobs, business development manager at Piros. “We not only learned about the latest Red Hat developments, but we also got to meet countless fellow open source geeks from all over the world.
What’s new from Red Hat?
One of the major announcements at Red Hat One was the introduction of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.0, packed with powerful new features. In addition, AI remains one of the major themes in the industry. The possibilities are enormous, and companies are working hard on concrete use cases. Red Hat is at the forefront of responding to this demand.
But the main focus this year was on virtualization. After VMware was acquired by Broadcom, customers have been hit with significant price hikes. For many, Red Hat OpenShift offers the best alternative, but companies are asking a relevant question: what if you want to virtualize without containerizing? After all, OpenShift is a container platform.
That question was answered in Las Vegas. Red Hat is working hard on a solution that’s purely focused on virtualization, and we can probably expect the rollout soon. At the beginning of this year, Red Hat launched the SQL OpenShift Virtualization Engine. It shows how high virtualization is on their agenda, and it’s also a top priority for Piros right now.
Exchanging experiences
Beyond new product announcements, Red Hat One remains a premier networking event. “It’s truly impressive,” says Angelo. “There were 8,000 colleagues from all over the world, all passionate about the same thing. You get to talk to Red Hat enthusiasts you would otherwise never meet.
“You couldn’t hope for a more international group of people. I spoke with colleagues from Austria and Chile, for example, and I also had some very interesting meetings with Red Hat staff, such as a project manager for the Red Hat Data Foundation, and now we have a major project on the table. This is just one example of how valuable participating in Red Hat One can be.”
Piros on stage
As the only Red Hat Partner Practice Accelerator in Belgium and Luxembourg, Piros was always determined to attend the event. And for the first time, Piros even got to be part of the actual program. Angelo presented a project that we realized for the DEME Group. We migrated their IBM Maximo management software to OpenShift, with edge computing and connectivity. It was a special project for us because the migration took place on board several large DEME ships. It was great to be able to share that unique experience at Red Hat One with the community.
Many organizations are scrabbling around looking for answers to these questions in-house. But with guidance from specialists, they can take the necessary steps much faster and be ready for what’s coming down the track. Once they’ve found the right business case, Red Hat OpenShift AI is the ideal platform when it comes to generating the AI workload. OpenShift always returns as the perfect platform, whether it’s in the cloud or on-premises, to virtualize and run AI. That’s true more than ever for 2025.
